Item Arrived Damaged
What happens if the item you received is damaged?
Document the Damage:
- Take clear, detailed photos of the damaged item, packaging, and label from multiple angles.
- Save the packaging and packing material. Packing material may be required for the seller to file insurance claims with the shipping company.
- Do not attempt to take apart or repair any broken item(s). Doing so can obscure the damage and be seen as user-induced damage, which is not eligible for return.
Contact the Seller
- Reach out to the seller promptly through private messages.
- Explain the situation clearly and provide the photos you took.
Possible Outcomes
- Return and Refund: The buyer returns the purchased item and receives a full refund, plus return shipping costs.
- Refund Only: The seller refunds the purchase cost and original shipping, allowing the buyer to keep the damaged item.
- Partial Refund: If the item isn't a total loss, the buyer and seller can agree on a partial refund, and the buyer keep the item.
- If the seller purchased shipping insurance, the seller can file an insurance claim through their shipping provider to reclaim any lost value from damage to the item.
- When a damaged item is returned for any reason, the seller is responsible for return shipping costs.
- The buyer is responsible for saving and returning any damaged packing material/packing in the case that an insurance claim requires.
Seller Refuses to any Agreement:
- If you can't resolve the issue with the seller/buyer, report the situation to the moderators of r/HardwareSwap, or the HardwareSwap Discord, depending on which platform the purchase was facilitated.
