Rules

Welcome to our community! Please take a moment to read through the rules before making or responding to any posts. Failing to read the rules won't be accepted as an excuse, and any posts that violate the rules will be removed.

If you can not find something covered in the rules, please reach out using Mod Mail, Discord, or our Contact Us form to ask for more information.

Post Requirements

Participation

  • Reddit accounts must be at least 50 days old or have at minimum 100 comment karma to post.
  • Discord accounts must be verified with one of 3 qualified accounts including eBay, PayPal, or Reddit account to post.

Posting Limits

  • Repeat items me be reposted every 72 hours
  • New items may be posted once every 24 hours.

Deleting Posts

  • Do not delete posts for any reason without explicit approval from the moderation team.

Post Title

  • Titles must follow a specific format.
  • [COUNTRY-STATE][H] Have [W] Want
  • Use official country abbreviations such CAN, GBR, USA.
  • Use official state/province abbreviations such as NY, CA, BC.

Required Information

Descriptions

  • Each item must have a description, including the condition, state, and any included or missing pieces listed.

Timestamps

  • All posts selling or trading an item must have a timestamp.

Asking Prices

  • Listings with an item for sale, or offered must have valid asking prices.

Transaction Standards

Payment Methods

  • The only approved method of payment is PayPal Goods and Services and PayPal Invoices.
  • Sellers should send detailed invoices to buyers for payment.

Solicitation

  • Do not use HardwareSwap to advertise. This includes listings on other sites, your website, or seeking collaboration with other users on projects or services.

Policing

  • If a user has an asking price that is out of the normal range, do not attack them for their pricing. To offer constructive feedback, a link to the same product must be offered as a price reference. Recently sold listings, or currently for sale offers must be provided. Expired sales or promotions are not permitted.

Shipping & Handling

Handling Time

  • Sellers are required to ship to the address on the buyer's PayPal Invoice.
  • Users have 5 business days to ship/return.
  • Unless part of the sale, the seller can use any shipment method they prefer.

Returns

  • Sellers are not required to accept returns due to buyer's remorse, but items not as described, or damaged in shipping must be accepted as a return. It is suggested that sellers purchase insurance equal to the value of the item.

Misc Post Types

Giveaways

  • Giveaways are permitted after approval by the moderation team.
  • Host must pay for shipping.
  • Winner must be chosen at random through a Randomizer Raffle site.

Meta

  • Meta posts are to discuss changes that impact HardwareSwap and marketplaces.
  • Only moderators may post meta posts.

Official

  • Official posts are posts created announcing a rule or process change.
  • Only moderators may post official posts.

Flair

What is Flair and Confirmed Trades?

  • Confirmed Trades include sold, purchased, and trade transactions in the HardwareSwap market. Local Trades can not be confirmed.
  • Flair is the count of confirmed trades displayed on a user's post or profile.

Flair Fraud

  • Any attempt to get free flair, or abuse the flair system is prohibited.
  • Two users must only confirm once regardless of the number of items traded per transaction.

Confirming Trades

  • Local trades do not qualify for confirmed trades.
  • Must wait till the item is delivered, and tested before confirming the trade
  • The HWS Portal will be used for confirming and syncing trades between Reddit and Discord.

Moderation

Communicating

  • Moderators may request additional info to handle claims. Ensure you are speaking with a moderator before providing this information.
  • Any attempt to deceive a moderator will result in an immediate permanent ban.

Code of Conduct

  • The most important rule is to respect others.
  • For everything else, there is a code of conduct.

Rule Comprehension

  • We try to address a majority of situations, but it is not possible to cover every scenario.
  • The moderation team has the right to make ad-hoc decuisions on a case-by-case basis. This includes handling rule-related matters and post-removals.
  • If there's a disagreement about a rule or post-removal please reach out to us via Reddit or Discord.
  • Repeated violations may lead to a permanent ban.

Infractions

  • Moderation employees an infraction system. Different infractions carry a different weight on the infraction scale. Repeated infractions or scamming will result in suspension and/or a permanent ban.
